ASI's monthly Preschool Program pairs a child aged 3 to 5 with one grown-up for 90 minutes of Swedish culture: mansion exploration, creative play, circle time and slöjd (handcraft). In November teaching artist Jen Newburg introduces needle felting as children gently interlock wool fibers to make pepparkakor, Swedish gingerbread cookies, to use for pretend play or hang as a tree ornament, while families learn Jul traditions through activities for all five senses. Held in Paulson Hall on the lower level of the Turnblad Mansion; arrive 15 minutes early to check in. Limited to one adult per registered preschooler. $36 per child ($31 for ASI member children), with one adult's admission included.
