The Oregon Zoo's Halloween celebration runs over two October weekends (Oct. 17, 18, 24 and 25), 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Kids are encouraged to come in costume (no full face masks, weapons or inflatable costumes). Throughout the zoo there are Dragon Theater puppet shows at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. in Central Plaza, face painting from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., spooky lawn games and crafts at the amphitheater, roving costumed characters, keeper talks, and 'pumpkin playtimes' where animals get pumpkins (elephants Oct. 17, black bears Oct. 18, Primate Forest Oct. 24, rhinos Oct. 25). Oct. 25 adds Bat Awareness Day activities. Trick-or-treating in three zones (Wildlife Pavilion, Amphitheater and Conservation Hall) requires a $5 Treat and Ride Pass, which also includes a carousel or train ride; adults accompanying kids do not need one. Bring your own treat bag. All tickets must be bought online in advance; infants are free but need a ticket, and members get free admission but still need the pass to trick-or-treat.
