During Lan Su Chinese Garden's Chrysanthemum Festival, a drop-in craft station on Sunday afternoons lets visitors build a small wind chime or ornament from rattan stars and dried flowers grown by Walking Whale Flower Farm near Portland. Volunteers help attach the flowers and bells, so it works for all ages, including younger children with a grown-up's help. The rattan star bases come in neutral colors and in sizes from 2 to 5 inches, and materials are available while supplies last. The craft is free with garden admission or membership, so families can combine it with a walk past the festival's chrysanthemum displays in the walled garden in Old Town Chinatown.
