Friends of Tryon Creek's nature journaling class on Friday, November 20, focuses on mushrooms, which are in season in the park's fall forest. Local author and science illustrator Audrey Sauble introduces tools and techniques for recording nature observations with both drawings and written notes. No artistic experience is needed: basic art supplies are provided, though participants may bring their own sketchbook and materials, and part of the class may be held outdoors if the weather allows, so dress for the trail. The organizer says all ages are welcome, which makes it a fit for homeschoolers, older kids who like to draw, and parents who want to sketch alongside them. The class runs from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Tryon Creek State Natural Area nature center area. Registration is required and the fee is on a sliding scale of $10 to $20.
