Since 1932, the residents of Peacock Lane, a short street of mostly Tudor-style homes in Southeast Portland, have decorated their houses for Christmas with nativity scenes, rotating Christmas trees and life-size figures of Santa, Frosty, the Grinch and other characters. For 2026 the lights are on every night from December 15 through December 31, 6 to 10 p.m., and December 15 and 16 are pedestrian-only nights, when families can walk down the middle of the street. A free hot cocoa and cider booth opens at 6 p.m. from December 15 to 24 while supplies last (donations are optional), and everything on the Lane is free and commercial-free. There is no official parking, so the residents recommend TriMet, walking or biking; on peak nights the sidewalks can be shoulder-to-shoulder, so groups should agree on a meeting spot in case they get separated. After December 25 the crowds thin considerably, although the cocoa booth and most carolers are gone by then. Driving the Lane is permitted December 18 through 31, which lets visitors with limited mobility see the displays, but police may close the street to cars at any time. Leashed dogs are welcome; smoking is not, and visitors are asked to stay out of the yards.
