Synth Library Portland, which keeps a circulating collection of electronic instruments, sets up a synthesizer 'petting zoo' at Beaverton City Library on Sunday afternoon, October 25. The first 30 minutes are a synth performance and demonstration. After that, the instruments are open for anyone to try: visitors press buttons, turn knobs and hit pads on synthesizers and drum machines and hear the sounds they actually make, discovering how these instruments create and shape sound. No musical or electronics experience is needed. The library encourages all ages to come and tags the program for kids, teens and adults. Volunteers from Synth Library Portland stay on hand to help with the equipment and answer questions. It is a drop-in program from 2 to 4 p.m. at the library on SW Fifth Street in Beaverton, and the calendar lists no registration or fee.
