About this adventure

Tucked into a dramatic mountain canyon between the San Bernardino and San Jacinto mountains, the 2,851-acre Whitewater Preserve features a rare, perennial wild mountain river flowing year-round through the desert. Managed by The Wildlands Conservancy, the preserve offers a serene, family-friendly oasis with crisp mountain breezes and stunning views of snow-capped Mount San Gorgonio. Families can stroll flat, well-maintained paths surrounding historic stone buildings, shade trees, and tranquil trout ponds where children can spot rainbow trout, dragonflies, and migrating winter waterfowl. The level Canyon View Trail and riverside paths are suitable for sturdy all-terrain strollers, and the visitor center provides clean restrooms, shaded picnic lawns, and nature exhibits—all completely free of charge.
