The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center's 19th annual Día de los Muertos celebration is a family-friendly, alcohol-free afternoon honoring ancestors, family, friends and public figures. From 1 to 6 p.m. the center fills with Day of the Dead altars, art installations and activities meant to help visitors appreciate the sweetness and fragility of life, a gentle way to introduce children to the tradition. Families can view the community ofrendas and join hands-on activities; the MACC has a separate page explaining how to participate with an altar.
