A Halloween afternoon in Thatcher Woods in River Forest, run by the Forest Preserves with the Linda Sokol Francis Brookfield Library. From 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, children can trick-or-treat, paint a pumpkin and listen to spooky stories in the woods, with s'mores as the name promises. Costumes are encouraged. The event is free and listed as a youth and storytelling program, so it suits preschool and grade-school children with their families. The pavilion sits on Chicago Avenue just west of Thatcher Avenue, close to Trailside Museum.
