The International Porcelain Artists and Teachers (IPAT) Museum of Porcelain Art in downtown Grapevine offers a two-hour Saturday-morning introduction to china painting for school-aged children. Each child starts with a porcelain piece that already carries a pre-fired decal and learns basic brush strokes and the principles of painting on porcelain, then decorates the piece. The $35 fee covers the porcelain, the decal and the kiln firing. Because the work has to be fired, the finished piece is not taken home the same day: it is ready for pickup by the following Tuesday during regular business hours. Registration is required by 5 pm on Friday, November 20, through the museum's classes page. This is a good fit for children who like detailed, quiet art projects and want to try a craft they would not find in a typical kids' art studio.
