North Central Ballet performs Nutcracker – Short and Sweet, a one-hour version of the holiday ballet with an intermission, at Grapevine's historic Palace Theatre on the weekend before Thanksgiving. The production takes the audience through the land of dancing snowflakes to the Kingdom of the Sweets, with Tchaikovsky's score including the Spanish and Arabian dances, the Waltz of the Flowers and the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. The company's director says the show is meant to introduce children to the magic of ballet, and the short running time suits preschoolers and first-time ballet goers who would not sit through a full-length Nutcracker. Performances are at 3 pm on Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22, with reserved seating at $18. Guests who need to remain in a wheelchair should call Grapevine Ticketline at 817-410-3100 for seating help. The ballet company was founded in 1993 and also trains young dancers.
