The 38th annual Carol of Lights is the official kickoff of Grapevine's Christmas Capital of Texas season, held on Historic Main Street on the Monday of Thanksgiving week. The city describes it as a family-friendly festival with live Christmas music, festive photo opportunities, an appearance by Santa Claus and the moment when Grapevine's Christmas light displays are switched on for the first time. It runs from 4 to 8 pm and admission is free, so families can arrive after school, find a spot near the music and stay for the lighting. It opens the town's 40 days of Christmas events — the North Pole Express train rides, the Peace Plaza ice rink and the Parade of Lights follow over the next weeks. Parking is free throughout Historic Main Street, but it is a busy night, so arrive early and dress for an outdoor evening.
