Texas Parks and Wildlife — Galveston Island State Park

On Thanksgiving morning, Thursday November 26, 2026, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., a naturalist leads a slow-paced, tongue-in-cheek 'turkey hunt' at Galveston Island State Park. No wild turkey has ever been recorded in the park, but the group sets out to look for one anyway, which makes it a fun way for kids to burn energy before the holiday meal while spotting other wildlife. The terrain is moderate. No registration is needed; meet at the Observation Tower parking lot with water, sunscreen, bug spray and optional binoculars, wearing close-toed shoes. The event is free with park admission, which is $5 per person 13 and older (free with a Texas State Parks Pass). Park headquarters is closed that day, so use self-pay or reserve a day pass online.
