Galveston Island State Park's rangers lead easy one-hour winter birding walks for all ages on Saturdays November 14 and 28, December 26, 2026 and January 9, 2027, 9 to 10 a.m. Bring binoculars and bundle up: the walk introduces the basics of birding, how to identify the island's winter residents and how to spot rare visitors. The route is an easy 0.75-mile hike with no shade. Bring bug spray, water, weather-appropriate clothes and close-toed shoes that can get wet, and meet at the Observation Tower parking lot. Park entry is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under, or free with a State Parks Pass. Families who need accommodations can call Ranger Regina at (409) 737-1222 x226.
