Galveston Island State Park's day-after-Thanksgiving paddle: a guided 1.5-hour kayak trip from the Oak Bayou Picnic Area out over the sea-grass beds and bay bottom of Galveston Bay. A free safety and paddling lesson, kayak, paddle and life jacket are provided, and groups stay small (under 18 people). The tour is for ages 13 and older, and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Expect physical, water-based activity; anything you bring may get wet, muddy or salty, close-toed shoes and life jackets must be worn, and the suggested kayak weight limit is 250 lbs. Spots are limited and online registration opens seven days before at 9 a.m.; the park entry fee ($5 adults, free 12 and under) must be paid before the trip.
