An afternoon OC Parks Jr. Ranger session at the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve in Newport Beach. Children explore the bay's wetlands and bluffs with a ranger, work through a set of Jr. Ranger activities, and finish by taking the OC Parks Jr. Ranger Oath to earn a badge unique to this park. The county's Jr. Ranger Program is meant to help kids feel at home outdoors and see themselves as stewards of Orange County's natural and cultural resources. Sessions are designed for ages 7 to 12, though everyone is welcome, and a parent or guardian must stay with minors. Bring sunscreen, sturdy shoes and water. The program and parking are free; advance registration is required, and rain cancels the session.
