Brandywine Zoo staff lead a monthly litter cleanup around the zoo's corner of Wilmington, and these sessions double as citizen science: volunteers record what they pick up, and the data is later submitted to the Ocean Conservancy. Gloves, bags and litter pickers are provided, so families only need closed-toed shoes, comfortable clothes and, if they like, a reusable water bottle or their own gloves. The group meets at the zoo's Education Building and works for about an hour and a half on a weekend morning. It is a practical, hands-on way for children to help care for the park land around the zoo. The zoo asks people to sign up through the Join Us link on each date's page; neither a fee nor a minimum age is printed, and questions go to the zoo's community engagement email.
