Ahwatukee families can bring children to a free two-hour Bike Safety Rodeo set up in the Ironwood Library parking lot. Kids ride a fun obstacle course while learning the rules of the road and basic bike safety, and Phoenix Children's Hospital, the library's partner, gives away free helmets while supplies last. Children are invited to bring their own bikes and helmets; if they do not have one, a bike or scooter is provided for use during the event, so no child is left out. The rodeo runs 9:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m. on a Saturday and is listed by Phoenix Public Library for kids, which makes it a good first lesson for new riders and a refresher for confident ones. Accommodation requests go to the library (602-262-4636, TTY 711) at least 14 business days ahead. It is one of a series of rodeos at different Phoenix branches this fall.
