The Laveen Community Council's 20th annual Laveen Turkey Trot is a Thanksgiving-morning tradition on the Laveen Area Conveyance Channel, with a 1-mile fun run that the organizers call perfect for kids and families alongside a chip-timed 5K run/walk and 10K run. The untimed 1-mile fun run lines up at 8:00 am and starts at 8:05; participants have an hour to run or walk it, and every finisher gets a medal (a race shirt is not included with the 1-mile entry). Costumes and leashed pets are welcome. Children not yet of school age can join their families on the course without registering, though they get no bib, shirt or medal. There is no race-day registration or packet pickup: collect packets at Robeks, 7625 S 59th Ave, on Tuesday or Wednesday, November 24–25, from 3 to 7 pm, or pay $15 to have them mailed if you register before November 15. Park only in the marked areas in front of Michael's and TJ Maxx or in the shopping center east of 59th Avenue.
