Pittsburgh Botanic Garden educator Ms. Courtney hosts a drop-in table at the Weisbrod Learning Pavilion about what tree rings reveal. Visitors learn how each tree in the garden works like a living time capsule and how its rings record past weather, fires and changes in the surrounding environment. Families can stop by any time between 10 a.m. and noon on Saturday, October 17; registration is not required. The activity is free with Garden admission, so it fits easily into a fall walk through the Allegheny Plateau woodlands in Oakdale. Hands-on science stations like this suit curious school-age children and their adults.
