Forest Grove's community tree lighting on the Pacific University campus on the evening after Thanksgiving. The program starts at 6 pm at the tree where College Way meets 21st Avenue — under thirty minutes outdoors, rain or dry — and a child picked from a coloring contest (open to children eight and younger) throws the switch as honorary tree lighting conductor. Everyone then walks across campus to Washburne Hall for cookies, holiday crafts, coloring, caroling, a visit with Santa, and photos with the Nutcracker, Clara and the Sugar Plum Fairy from Ballet Forest Grove. The evening wraps up at 7:30 pm. College Way is closed for the program, so park on the surrounding streets. The event is put on by the Forest Grove/Cornelius Chamber of Commerce with Forest Grove Light & Power, Pacific University, the City of Forest Grove and community partners.
