North Plains' small-town lighted parade, held on the first Thursday of December. Local families, friends and groups decorate anything that moves — trucks, trailers, family cars, rented golf carts, motorcycles and bicycles — with lights and roll through town at about 10 miles an hour; the procession lasts around half an hour. Judges pick a Best Decorated Vehicle, and decorated homes and businesses are judged too. The parade ends in front of the North Plains Senior Center on Commercial Street, where the town tree is lit between about 7 and 7:15 pm, followed by carolers and refreshments until around 8 pm. Commercial Street is closed between 313th and Main Street for the event. Watch from the route, or register to join the parade.
