Vancouver's official start to the holiday season, presented by the Vancouver Rotary Club on the day after Thanksgiving. The evening begins on the Columbia River: at 4 pm youth musicians from School of Rock play at the Vancouver Waterfront while Rotarians pour hot chocolate, around 5 pm the Christmas Ships escort a tugboat carrying Santa and Mrs. Claus along the waterfront, and at 5:45 pm they step ashore in front of the AC Marriott. A lighted vehicle parade then carries them up to Esther Short Park. In the park, from 3 to 7 pm, families find Loci rides at the west end of 6th Street, photo booths with Santa, the Grinch, and Anna, Elsa and Olaf (who also perform from Journey Theater at 5:15), a holiday sing-along show, a food and drink market and a holiday market inside the Hilton. Santa lights the community Christmas tree at 6:30 pm. Admission is free; donations for parking ($5 suggested in city lots) and some entertainment support the Vancouver Rotary Foundation. ASL interpretation is provided on the main stage.
