Oregon Road Runners Club (ORRC)

The Oregon Road Runners Club's Thanksgiving-morning fun run starts beside the Oregon Zoo, heads out toward the International Rose Garden and finishes inside the zoo at Elephant Plaza. The untimed 5K goes out in four waves from 7:30 am; the last, at 7:39, is for slower walkers and families with strollers. Children get two races of their own inside the zoo afterwards: the Tot Trot (ages 0–4, about 1/8 mile) at 8:30 am and the Gobble Gallop (ages 5–10, about 1/4 mile) at 8:40 am. Every entrant gets a beanie and a chocolate turkey, kids also get a ribbon, and 150 pumpkin pies are raffled by bib number. The zoo is closed to everyone except bib holders that morning: animals may not be on view, the train, carousel and concessions are shut, and pets and bikes are not allowed. The course is hilly. Registration is online only and closes November 19; there is no race-day sign-up. Take TriMet if you can, because zoo parking fills.
