The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens

A one-morning, career-focused camp for middle and high school students in grades 7 through 10 at The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in Palm Desert. Working with the zoo's Learning and Engagement staff, campers learn what goes into keeping zoo animals healthy and content, then help with tasks that are part of a zookeeper's daily routine. Responsibilities may include helping maintain habitats, preparing animal diets, creating enrichment for the animals, and thinking through how to design safe and healthy habitats. It suits teens who are considering a career with animals, in biology or in conservation. The session runs from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and registration is required in advance through the zoo's camp registration system. Fees are $95 for non-members, $85 for members and $9.50 for EBT households; cancellations more than 14 days ahead forfeit a $40 deposit, and later cancellations are not refunded.
