Danville's longest-running holiday tradition turns 50 this year. The evening starts at the Old Oak Tree at Hartz and Prospect Avenues in Historic Downtown Danville, where the Danville Girls Chorus and the Monte Vista High School and San Ramon High School chamber singers perform holiday classics before the tree is lit. Father Christmas and the Snow Angel then greet the crowd and lead a procession down Diablo Road and through downtown, where local businesses join in with festivities, entertainment and holiday treats. It is an outdoor, street-level evening that suits families with children of any age; strollers are practical, but it gets crowded around the tree at lighting time, so arrive early for a view and dress for a cold November evening. The Town lists it as running from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on the Friday after Thanksgiving.
