Children's Fairyland on Lake Merritt celebrates Día de los Muertos over three days with an art exhibition, live performances and a new book celebration, all included with park admission. In the park's chapel, an exhibit shows original artwork and objects by 450 TK–5th grade students from Escuela de la Familia Global in Oakland. Performances run at 1:30 and 2:30 pm: Colors of Spanish leads a Spanish-language music-and-movement program for young children on Sunday, November 1; the Castro Valley youth band Mariachi Corazon Jovial plays on Saturday, November 7; and master percussionist Marcos Odara teaches Brazilian drumming basics on Sunday, November 8. On November 7 at 11:30 am, author Sara Andrea Fajardo reads her picture book A Tanta Wawa for Abuelito. Fairyland is designed for children up to about age 8, and the park is open 10 am to 4 pm.
