For three December weekends Children's Fairyland becomes Fairy Winterland, a gingerbread-trimmed celebration of winter light traditions from Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Shab-e Yalda and Santa Lucia Day to Christmas, Las Posadas, the Winter Solstice and Diwali. Kids can join a snowball fight on Play Island, try ice fishing and dreidel in the Merry Meadow, roll a wax candle, make holiday keepsakes, follow a park-wide scavenger hunt and watch the snow machine. Puppet shows run daily at 2, 4 and 6 p.m., with live performances through the season, free cocoa, cider and tea, and visits with Black Santa in the Chapel (including the weekend after Christmas). Hours are noon to 7 p.m. on December 12–13, 19–20 and 26–27.
