The City of Richmond kicks off the holiday season with its annual tree lighting at the Richmond Memorial Auditorium. The hour-long evening includes festive holiday music, a cozy story time with a special guest and a few cheerful surprises the city is keeping under wraps. Families are invited to bring a special ornament from home to hang on the community tree, which gives children a personal stake in the lighting. The event is free and open to everyone, and its early 5:30–6:30 pm slot on a Wednesday makes it manageable on a school night.
