This hands-on course at McDowell Nature Preserve teaches children ages 7 and up and their adults how to read a topographic map and use a compass, then has them test their new skills on McDowell's orienteering course. It is a two-hour outdoor session on a Sunday afternoon. Pre-registration is required for the adult and the child alike: it is not a drop-off program, and the adult must register and take part with the child. About ten openings remained when checked.
