River Trail Nature Center in Northbrook holds its autumn fun day on Sunday, October 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The day mixes nature-center favorites with seasonal activities: beekeeping demonstrations, encounters with the center's animal ambassadors, pumpkin painting and other hands-on activities, plus honey for sale from the center. Admission is free, though the Forest Preserves note that a few activities may carry a small fee and food is available to buy. It is a drop-in event suited to families with children of any age; trails around the center are open for a walk among the fall colors afterward.
