For Native American Heritage Month, Trailside Museum of Natural History in River Forest hosts Nation of Nations throughout November. The exhibit celebrates the tribal diversity of contemporary Indigenous communities whose ancestral homelands are in the Great Lakes region. Sovereign tribal flags are displayed outside the museum, and an indoor exhibit explains the political structure of each tribal nation's government. The exhibit is free, and it gives school-age children and their families a concrete look at tribal nations as they exist today, not only in history books.
