Lake Tawakoni State Park (Texas Parks and Wildlife Department)

A ranger program at Lake Tawakoni State Park that teaches families to read the animal tracks found in the park. It starts as a short stationary session at the Spring Point trailhead, where participants get a close look at common tracks and learn to tell look-alikes apart, such as bobcat versus coyote and raccoon versus opossum. Afterwards anyone who wants to can join a ranger on Spring Point Trail to look for real tracks in the mud and dirt. It is a good fit for children who like puzzles and detective work outdoors. Bring water and sunscreen, and for the hike wear shoes you don't mind getting dirty and bring bug spray. The program is free with park entry, which costs $5 for adults 13 and older; children 12 and under get in free.
