About this adventure

Eagle Creek Park on the northwest side is one of the largest city-owned parks in the nation, with a reservoir, woods, ponds, streams, grassland and wetlands. The Ornithology Center sits on a bluff above a bird sanctuary where visitors can spot bald eagles, great blue herons, cormorants, grebes and loons, and it cares for a group of avian ambassador birds; the National Audubon Society lists the park as an Important Bird Area. The park also has the Earth Discovery Center, built for ecology education for school-age children, a nature center and a geothermal pond. Bird walks led by the Bird Alliance of Central Indiana go out rain or shine, so bring binoculars. Families can arrive by car, bike or on foot through the North Gate at 71st Street or the South Gate at 56th Street.
