About this adventure

Butler University's Holcomb Observatory and Planetarium opens to the public on selected weekend evenings. Each visit pairs a fulldome planetarium show (currently Mars: The Ultimate Voyage, about what it would take to send humans to Mars, followed by a guided tour of the fall sky) with telescope viewing when the weather is clear. The main Holcomb Telescope is under repair, so observing uses the observatory's Celestron telescopes and a Seestar S50. If the first shows fill, extra shows are added. Telescope observing is free and weather-dependent; if it is cloudy you can return on any later clear public night. Event parking at Butler can cost $15 per car on basketball or show nights.
