About this adventure

The outdoor, uncovered ice rink at Bear Mountain State Park in Rockland County opens for the 2026–27 season on November 7, 2026 and runs through March 7, 2027, weather permitting. Public skating comes in 90-minute sessions: six on Fridays and Saturdays (from 10 am to a 8–9:30 pm session under the lights) and five on Sundays, with extra daytime and evening sessions on school holidays — Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after, Christmas Eve morning, December 26–31 and January 1–2 (closed Christmas Day). At $5 a skater and free for children 4 and under, it is one of the least expensive outdoor rinks around New York City, and it sits next to the Bear Mountain Inn and the park's merry-go-round, so a skate can be paired with a winter walk around Hessian Lake. Skate rentals and sharpening are available, refreshments are vending machines only, and everyone entering the building pays the fee. Dress warmly, check the rink's home page for weather closures before driving up, and note that construction currently limits parking in lot 2 near the rink.
