About this adventure

Queens County Farm Museum marks Día de los Muertos with a 90-minute family celebration on Sunday morning, November 1. Families are invited to bring a photo of a loved one who has died, including a beloved pet, and add it to a community ofrenda that the farm builds and decorates with marigolds, playful skeletons and paper butterflies. Children decorate their own calavera (sugar skull) in bright colors and take part in a series of crafts and activities about the people and animals who shaped their lives, while staff explain the roots of the Mexican holiday and why families welcome their loved ones home with food, flowers and music. It is a gentle introduction to the holiday for school-age children and a hands-on activity for younger ones with a grown-up. Admission is $12 per person and children under 2 are free without a ticket; tickets are sold online in advance. Free on-site parking is available at the farm.
