About this adventure

Through the last Thursday and Friday afternoons of October, teens in grades 6 to 12 can stop by Mahopac Public Library's Lake View Room after school and build a nicho, the small decorated shadow box used to honor someone who has died, for the library's Día de los Muertos display in the young-adult area. The library supplies every material along with step-by-step instructions, so no art experience is needed, and the finished pieces go up together as a community display ahead of November 1 and 2. It is a low-key drop-in rather than a class: there is no registration, teens can come for part of the two-hour window, and it pairs naturally with the library's other teen Halloween-week programs. No fee is listed on the event page. Remaining sessions in 2026 fall on Thursday, October 29 and Friday, October 30, each from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.
