Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site holds a free Fall Festival on Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 3 to 5 pm. Children in costume can trick-or-treat inside the historic site and explore it with the help of a special scavenger hunt. An activity fair run with community partners (the Free Library of Philadelphia, Cosmic Writers, Park to Broad and the Philly Art Center) adds story time, hands-on activities, art making and music, and Philly Elmo and the Positive Movement Drumline give a special musical performance. Entry is free for kids in costume and the caregivers with them, and no reservations are needed. The festival is part of 'A Time for Liberty: Our Shared History, Our Shared Future', Eastern State's yearlong slate of free, inclusive programs about the meanings of liberty and justice in America, and the event page links to the site's accessibility and accommodations information. Eastern State is at 2027 Fairmount Avenue; the Philly Art Center's Fairmount Halloween festival and parade, run in partnership with Eastern State, takes place a few blocks west at 2333 Fairmount Avenue the same afternoon.
