The Stagecrafters Theater in Chestnut Hill stages its long-running family Halloween show on Friday, October 23, and Saturday, October 24, 2026. 'Halloween Scary Stories and Dr. Magic's School of Mystery and Mayhem' mixes short, kid-friendly scary stories (not too scary) with live magic, comedy and audience participation, hosted by Dr. Magic, played by Jeff Ragan, who joined the show in 2008. This year the evening is presented as an open house at Dr. Magic's school, with magical demonstrations and the school's characters. A pre-show photo booth opens at 6:15 pm, doors open at 6:30 pm and the show starts at 7 pm; at intermission children can join a costume parade and contest, with prizes awarded at the end of the show. The recommended ages are 7 to 12. Children 12 and under are admitted free with an accompanying adult; adult admission is $10, paid at the door or online in advance, and the theater recommends a reservation by email or phone for anyone not buying in advance. The theater is at 8130 Germantown Avenue, next to Bredenbeck's; the Halloween show began in 2003.
