The 58th annual Mesa Turkey Trot, organised by the Sertoma Club of Mesa, bills itself as Arizona's original Thanksgiving Day community race with a family atmosphere. Before the professionally timed 10K (8:20 a.m.) and 5K (8:40 a.m.) loop the roads around Red Mountain Park, a One Mile Fun Run/Walk starts at 8 a.m. as a warm-up and a chance for families to run together, which makes it the natural choice for children and strollers. Everyone finishes in the park's parking lot. Early registration for the one-mile fun run is $20 plus a processing fee, rising in stages to $30; the 5K and 10K start at $30. The organisers warn the race sells out and will not make exceptions, so register ahead. Proceeds support the club's community service work.
