The centerpiece of Milagro's 31st annual Día de los Muertos Celebration is Marigolds y Memorias, an original ensemble-devised play inspired by the traveling carpa tradition, mixing humor, music and storytelling. Guided by their ancestors, a younger generation rediscovers the heart of Día de Muertos and the meaning of each element, from candles and marigolds to ofrendas and recuerdos, while an altar slowly takes shape on stage through song, dance and short vignettes. It is a good way for children and teens to learn how the holiday's traditions are taught and passed on. Milagro recommends it for all ages; running time is about 1 hour 30 minutes with one intermission. Groups of 10 or more pay a reduced price per ticket by emailing the theater.
