Monthly low-sensory afternoons (3–5 p.m.) when lighting is softened and the museum environment is quieter, designed for visitors with sensory sensitivities, including those on the autism spectrum, and anyone who prefers a gentler museum experience. Each month an educator-led hands-on cart runs in a different hall: October 21 minerals cart in the Hall of Earth Sciences (magnify, feel and smell minerals, kinetic sand bins); November 18 pinch pots and seed crushing on the History Cart for Native American Heritage Month; December 16 pine-tree textures and scents on the Biodiversity Cart.
