The Sojourner Truth African Heritage Museum hosts a free afternoon at the California State Railroad Museum honoring Biddy Mason, who walked about 3,000 miles to California while enslaved, won her freedom in an 1856 case and became a healer, philanthropist and businesswoman. From 1:00 to 4:00 pm the lobby has community resource tables and a family craft activity for all ages. Historian Dr. Kevin Waite speaks about his biography of Biddy Mason from 1:15 pm, followed by a book signing and a conversation at 3:00 pm; the museum says these talks best suit teens and adults. The event is free but does not include museum admission.
