Learn about the sun's layers, solar wind, radiation flares and coronal mass ejections, and how Earth's magnetic field protects us (the battle we sometimes see as the northern lights). Participants then safely look at the sun's surface through a filtered telescope to spot sunspots and other features, and learn to track space weather with the free SpaceWeatherLive app. It is for ages 12 and up with a parent or guardian. Reservations are required through the Friends of Government Canyon website; registration opens two weeks before. The session meets at the Gallery next to the Visitor Center; it is stationary with paved access. It is canceled for rain or full overcast.
