About this adventure
A three-day winter-break science and culture camp for 8- to 11-year-olds timed around the shortest day of the year. Campers learn the planetary science behind the solstice, why days get shorter and how Earth's tilt works, then travel around the world through stories and projects about how different cultures across history have marked the longest night. The days mix hands-on experiments, crafts and some outdoor exploration with free time in the museum's exhibits. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Wednesday the week of Christmas, which makes it a useful option for working parents in the first week of winter break. Register online; the museum says holiday camps fill quickly.
