The San Francisco Zoo & Gardens' one-day Halloween festival returns on Saturday, October 31, from 10 AM to 3 PM. The costume parade starts at 11 AM and leads into a costume contest at noon with prizes in four categories: Toddler, Family/Group, Animal and Judge's Favorite. Throughout the day the zoo's animals receive Halloween-themed pumpkin treats to explore and smash (the animal pumpkin enrichment), children can collect sweets at a main trick-or-treat candy booth, make craft items to take home, and dance at a DJ party. Face painting and caricatures are also available, along with a Creepy Conservation table showing animal skulls and bones and a Spooky Selfie Station. To avoid startling the animals, the zoo asks guests not to wear full-face masks. The festival activities are included with paid daytime admission or zoo membership.
