On Veterans Day, the Doug Siden Visitor Center at Crab Cove in Alameda shares the site's military past: the page says it was a Maritime Academy during the war years, when dirigibles flew overhead, men practised rowing, and the building that is now the Visitor Center served as an infirmary.
