About this adventure
Hollister Hills was California State Parks' first State Vehicular Recreation Area: over 6,800 acres and nearly 200 miles of trails in varied terrain in the hills about 5 miles south of Hollister, an hour's drive from San José. The park is divided into separate areas, each with its own entrance on Cienega Road, for motorcycles and ATVs, four-wheel-drive vehicles, and non-motorized use; families who don't ride can visit the Nature Area and Mudstone Ranch, where leashed dogs are allowed. Pay fees and get a gate combination if needed at the main entrance. Camping is available by reservation.
