About this adventure

Tampa Repertory Theatre performs the holiday classic Miracle on 34th Street as a live 1940s radio broadcast in the Straz Center's intimate Shimberg Playhouse. Actors voice the story at vintage microphones while the sound effects are made live on stage (Foley) and holiday music is woven through the show, so children can watch how an old-time radio play was put together as well as follow the plot: a department-store Santa insists he is the real Kris Kringle, a courtroom has to decide, and a skeptical little girl is given a reason to believe. It suits school-age children who can sit through a play and families who like classic holiday stories; the page gives no age guidance or running time. Most performances are at 7:30 p.m., with 3 p.m. matinees on Sundays and on two Saturdays, which are the easier pick with younger kids. Tickets are sold through the Straz Center box office and website. This is an independent rental production by TampaRep rather than part of the Straz Center's own season.
